WELCOME TO THE

4rd ANNUAL

Juneteenth Celebration

JUNE 18, 2011

AFRICAN-AMERICAN  FREEDOM

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of an African American Emancipation day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics, and family gatherings.

The Indianapolis celebration takes place in Washington Park Annually will commence on June 14, 2008 at 10:00am with a “Ride & Drive for Peace” and a “ Balloon Release” to express freedom. This year we will be celebrating our 3rd year anniversary with emphasis on reflection and rejoicing. It will also be a time for assessment and self-improvement.

Activities will include Speakers, Entertainment, DJ Battle, MC Battle, Spoken Word (Poetry), Performances, Basketball Tournaments, Xbox Madden Tournament, Car and Motorcycle Show, Networking, Food, Fun and more for FAMILIES. Your help as a Sponsor, Partner, Vendor and/or Volunteer will provide the opportunity for our Indianapolis community to be Educated and United.
